Just as diets can fail from not thinking positively, so can businesses. So, let’s talk about how the mind works and how you can make it work for you. In your everyday, rational life, you’re dealing with your conscious mind. This is the part that makes decisions, makes judgments and helps you be logical. This is the part of you that will prioritize and plan for the present and for the future. The other part of your mind that is influencing you is your subconscious mind. This is the part that inspires creativity and lets you work through situations more intuitively than the logical part would. The subconscious mind doesn’t judge. It’s rather like a child in the sense that it is more open to new things and new ideas. They’re both great parts to have, but how to get them to work together? You will need to begin by deciding what it is that you want to do—whether it’s your business or your life. Think about this aspect of your life and think about it in the positive manner that you can. It doesn’t matter if you believe it or not, it just matters that you think it. Your subconscious mind won’t judge the truthfulness of it, but it will move you to the positive outcome that you want. And your conscious mind will begin to make decisions based on the positive thoughts that you are telling yourself WILL happen. It is amazing what a few good thoughts can do for you. If you believe in something enough and tell yourself that it can and will happen, your mind will follow. It sounds cheesy, but life is exactly what you want it to be. There are just too many people that believe the worst will happen and it does time and time again. On the other hand, if you have tried to think positively without any results and you really, really tried, then you may want to go back to what you want. Are you convinced that you want what you say that you do? Many times we get so caught up in what we should want, that we don’t stop to understand if it’s really want we want. Find out exactly what you want, no matter how crazy it seems, and start programming your mind to believe it. INTEGRITY AND YOU While it may seem like a silly thing to bring up when you’re the only one in your business, there are too many companies that are falling apart due to a lack of integrity. You should make sure that you are not one of these and it is a point that is (apparently) not stressed enough. Integrity begins with being honest to yourself and your intentions for your business. When you’re set up a proper mission statement and business plan, be sure that you are clear about your goals. What are you trying to achieve in your business? You should be aiming to serve people in some way and not just about the money. The money is a side benefit, but it won’t help you work harder. True passion is the key to making a solid business. Integrity is defined as being true to others and to oneself. Once you are true to yourself and your intentions, then you can present yourself to your customers. Make sure that you are fair and consistent in all of your dealings with your customers. This means that your prices are constant and your service is proper to everyone that you come into contact with. This means that you treat everyone with respect and dignity and equally. If you make one mistake in this and don’t take steps to fix it, you will lose business. It is said that for every complaint without resolution, they will tell ten people about it while every compliment only gets you three referrals. You have no margin for error, especially when in a home business. Integrity also stretches into your financial situation. You want to make sure that you are handling your money properly because your customers and your bank will know if you’re not. With public records, you are instantly in the eyes of your public and thus accountable for any slip ups. Although you may not have a stock that goes up and down, there are legal ramifications to using your funds improperly. If your customer pays you for a service and you don’t provide it, you can be sued and you will lose business in the process. If you send a poor quality product or don’t send anything, you will lose business. If you fail to keep proper records and thus don’t pay all of your taxes, you will lose your business. Shortcuts are not the way to line your pockets, but they are a great way to empty them. |
